This lovely hand carved and hand painted Russian Santa and Mrs. Claus are painted by the artist in an exquisite Winter Blue! The cloaks are beautifully hand painted with a gorgeous floral pattern in blues, golds, pinks, and greens, with white and gold highlights and gold glitter - which causes these statues to sparkle under the lights. Santa is holding a wonderfully decorated walking staff that matches his cloak and has his stuffed toy pack which is painted in tans and grays thrown over his shoulder. Mrs. Claus (or Snowmaiden) is dressed in a traditional costume along with a traditional pointed headdress. (SEE CLOSE UP PICTURES OF THE FLOWERS AND THE LOVELY EXPRESSIONS ON THE FACES!) This Santa and Mrs. Claus are painted with a unique style called “Abramtsova”. This technique is extremely rare and time consuming. It requires the artist to paint a layer of clear frosted paint then quickly removing a portion of the paint before it is dry. This creates a frosted layer over the previous layer of paint giving an iridescent look. Currently, Natasha, the artist who painted these Statuettes, is the only artist we know of using the Abramtsova technique. Both Santa and Mrs. Claus are lightly lacquered so they are easily cleaned and protected. The solid linden wood is dried for almost 2 years before it is carved so it will last a lifetime. Linden wood was once used to make drafting boards because it is so stable once properly dried. It does not warp, change shape, or crack and these artistic pieces will bring enjoyment for a lifetime! This Santa (or Grandfather Frost as he is called in Russia) and Mrs. Claus (or Snow Maiden) are made in Sergei Posad, Russia and are signed by the artist. The Santa measures just over 10.5 inches tall by 6 inches wide while Mrs. Claus measures just over 10 inches tall by 6 inches wide.
