This beautiful hand painted Russian Santa Claus has amazing details in the face, beard, and costume. The cloak is painted in reds and golds, with white highlighting and edging. The pattern on the cloak is that of gold curly cues and white snowflakes! Notice the brightly colored vest, short trousers, and sturdy black boots he is wearing. This Santa is painted in the unique style know as GOLDEN UZOR. In Golden Uzor painting, the artist layers the gold paint creating a raised pattern which reflects under the light and gives texture. This Santa is lacquered so it is easily cleaned and protected. The solid linden wood is dried for almost 2 years before it is carved so it will last a lifetime. Linden wood was once used to make drafting boards because it is so stable once it is properly dried. It does not warp, change shape, or crack and this artistic piece will bring enjoyment for a lifetime! Please Note: These are not molded or mass produced as are some molded resin Santas from China. This Santa (or Grandfather Frost as he is called in Russia) is made in Sergei Posad, Russia and is signed by the artist. It measures approximately 9.25 inches tall by just over 4 inches wide.

GOLDEN UZOR PAINTING
This Santa has a special rare type of painting called “Golden Uzor.” Tatyana Makarova, the painter, painstakingly and carefully layers the paint a number of times in order to achieve the thick, raised, golden effect in Uzor painting. It may be difficult to see in the pictures, but it creates a unique look and feel in person. Currently we know of only two painters who are painting the traditional Uzor style on their hand crafted Santas. Tatyana Makarova is one of them. Her Santas are stunning!
