WOW!!  THIS SANTA IS A STUNNING EXAMPLE OF HAND CARVED AND HAND PAINTED ARTWORK!  Santa is sitting in his sleigh and instead of being pulled by his twelve tiny reindeer, he is being pulled by a traditional Russian Troika. A "Troika" is a sleigh pulled by three horses and is a perfect mode of transportation through the snowy countryside - which is also a perfect form of transportation at the North Pole! Santa's sleigh is painted in a traditional Russian pattern and colors and his cloak is also a brightly colored pattern.  In his hands are "rope" reins which wrap through the horses mouths and the "yoke" harnessed to the center horse which is attached to the sleigh. THE CARVING OF THE HORSES IS INCREDIBLY REALISTIC AND LIFE-LIKE!! The snow is drifting up under the horses' hooves and the entire thing is set on a base painted to look like snow with animal footprints, pine boughs and branches -  SEE CLOSE UP PICTURES BELOW. This Santa is lightly lacquered so it is easily cleaned and protected. The linden wood is dried for almost 2 years before it is carved so it will last a lifetime. This statue is formed out of multiple pieces of Linden wood - and this type of wood was once used to make drafting boards because it is so stable once it is properly dried. It does not warp, change shape, or crack and this artistic piece will bring enjoyment for a lifetime! (Note: These are not molded or mass produced as are some molded resin Santas from China. All our Russian Santas are hand carved from Linden Wood and no two are ever identical!) This Grandfather Frost (as he is called in Russia) is made in Sergei Posad, Russia, and is signed by the artist. This statue measures approximately 22.25 inches from the very front of the base to the back of the base.  It is 11 inches tall to the top of Santa's cap and 7.5 inches wide at the back of the base and 12.75 inches wide at the widest point of the front of the base.
