This unbelievable and incredibly life-like Russian Santa Claus is intricately hand carved and hand painted by the artist to enhance details in the Santa, his costume, and the polar bear which he is riding. This Santa is painted in bright reds and has an beautifully decorated pack that is thrown over his shoulder. Santa's cloak is embedded with precious stones. There are 48 Agate stones and 3 Serdolik or Carnelian stones (Also known as Pigeon's Blood Agate) and originates from the old Russian word that means "looks like a heart" or "reminding of the heart" or "happy". It was popular in Old Russia in jewelry and as an ornamental stone (SEE CLOSE UP PICTURES BELOW). This statue is lightly lacquered so it is easily cleaned and protected but it is not shiny. The solid linden wood is dried for almost 2 years before it is carved so it will last a lifetime. Linden wood was once used to make drafting boards because it is so stable once it is properly dried. It does not warp, change shape, or crack and this artistic piece will bring enjoyment for a lifetime! (Please Note: These are not molded or mass produced as are some molded resin Santas from China. All Russian Santas are hand carved from Linden Wood and no two are ever identical!) This Grandfather Frost, as he is called in Russia, is made in Sergei Posad, Russia, is signed by the artist, with the types and numbers of the precious stones etched in the wood. The Santa measures approximately 10.75 inches tall by 11.5 inches across from the tip of the bear's nose to the end of his heel by 4.25 inches.
