This Old World Russian Santa Claus is etched and hand painted by the artist creating this wonderful Santa painted in purples, golds and whites. Santa's cloak is painted with a winter village scene with a Russian Orthodox Church with its traditional Onion Domes, a well from which the villagers are drawing water and a snow covered bridge over the river. Santa is holding a beautiful walking stick decorated in golds with a decorated bell in his hand. Santa also has a toy back at his side that is decorated with a scene of a villager carrying water pails or Koromyslo (the traditional U-shaped wooden yoke that allows Russian peasants or villagers to carry heavy buckets of water over their shoulders). Santa's cloak is covered with raised dots of paint that give the impression that the cloak has precious stones or jewels sewn into it and the cloak is painted with metallic paint and glitter causing it to shimmer under the lights. This Santa is lightly lacquered so it is easily cleaned and protected. The solid linden wood is dried for almost 2 years before it is carved so it will last a lifetime. Linden wood was once used to make drafting boards because it is so stable once it is properly dried. It does not warp, change shape, or crack and this artistic piece will bring enjoyment for a lifetime! (Note: These are not molded or mass produced as are some molded resin Santas from China. All Russian Santas are hand carved from Linden Wood and no two are ever identical!) This Grandfather Frost (as he is called in Russia) is made in Sergei Posad, Russia and measures approximately 12.25 inches tall by 6.25 inches wide.
