This quaint Old World Russian Santa Claus is hand carved and hand painted in reds, oranges, tans/olives,purples, blues and golds. Santa has a Nordic look to him and his face is very realistic looking - I love the way his mouth is slightly open the way many old men tend to do. Santa's outfit is layered and has a decorative belt/sash as well as a vest which is held together with rope and is topped off with an overcoat. Santa is wearing a traditional cap as well as traditional Valenki (felt winter boots made of wool). In one hand Santa is holding a wooden staff and in the other he is holding a little Christmas tree which is painted with metallic paint and shimmers in the light. Santa's skis are painted in a very bright design and can be removed for storage. This statuette is lightly lacquered so it is easily cleaned and protected. The solid linden wood is dried for almost 2 years before it is carved. (Note: These are not mass produced molded resin from China. All our Russian Santas are one of a kind, unique, and hand carved from Linden Wood so no two Santas are ever identical.) This Grandfather Frost, as he is called in Russia, is made in Sergei Posad, Russia, is signed by the artist, and measures just under 9 inches tall by 4.75 inches front to back (from the tip to the back of his skis).
