This bright red and gold Russian Santa Claus is intricately hand carved and hand painted by the artist. The cloak is painted with snowflakes and the pack is painted with red winter or Rowan berries. This Santa is painted with a unique style called “GOLDEN UZOR”. This technique is extremely rare and time consuming. It requires the artist to paint layer after layer of gold paint on the Santa. This creates a raised look and feel. Currently, Tatiana, the artist who painted this Santa, is the only artist we know of using the Golden Uzor technique. This Santa is lacquered so it is easily cleaned and protected. The solid linden wood is dried for almost 2 years before it is carved so it will last a lifetime. Linden wood was once used to make drafting boards because it is so stable once it is properly dried. It does not warp, change shape, or crack and this artistic piece will bring enjoyment for a lifetime! Please Note: These are not molded or mass produced as are some molded resin Santas from China. This Santa (or Grandfather Frost as he is called in Russia) is made in Sergei Posad, Russia and is signed by the artist. This Santa measures approximately 10.75 inches tall by 5 inches wide.

This Santa has a special rare type of painting called “Golden Uzor.” Tatyana Makarova, the painter, painstakingly and carefully layers the paint a number of times in order to achieve the thick, raised, golden effect in Uzor painting. It may be difficult to see in the pictures, but it creates a unique look and feel in person. Currently we know of only two painters who are painting the traditional Uzor style on their hand crafted Santas. Tatyana Makarova is one of them. Her Santas are stunning!
