This fantastic hand carved and hand painted Russian Santa has a rustic, Old World charm about him. Santa has a kind expression on his face and his cheeks are red and ruddy from the wind! The scene on his cloak is that of three young people all bundled up against the cold - one pulling a sled and the other two rolling a large snowball - perhaps the beginnings of a snowman?? This Santa is painted in muted pastels - his coat is olives, tans, and light browns with a snowy village scene painted on it. Santa's pack has a wooden, snow covered Russian Orthodox Church painted on it with a traditional Onion Dome on it. Santa is making his way on a pair of skis with two ski poles in his hands! This Santa is very lightly lacquered so it is easily cleaned and protected. The solid linden wood is dried for almost 2 years before it is carved. (Note: These are not mass produced molded resin from China. All Russian Santas are one of a kind, unique, and hand carved from Linden Wood so no two Santas are ever identical.) This Grandfather Frost, as he is called in Russia, is made in Sergei Posad, Russia. This Santa is signed by the artist and measures approximately 8 inches tall by 5.5 inches from the front tip of the forward ski to the back of the other ski.
