WHAT A WONDERFUL, QUAINT, OLD WORLD SANTA!!
This hand carved and hand painted Russian Santa is hauling a large, overstuffed pack behind him with a scene on it. He also has a kind expression on his face and his cheeks are red and ruddy from the wind! The scene on his pack is that of three young people all bundled up against the cold as they make their way through the the snowy village with a Russian Orthodox Church in the background - one young maiden is pulling a sled behind her and the other young man and young lady are rolling a large snowball - perhaps the beginnings of a snowman?? This Santa is painted in muted pastels - his coat is tans and browns with a snowy village scene painted on it and his trousers are tan. There is even a village scene painted on his cloak. This Santa is very lightly lacquered so it is easily cleaned and protected. The solid linden wood is dried for almost 2 years before it is carved. (Note: These are not mass produced molded resin from China. All Russian Santas are one of a kind, unique, and hand carved from Linden Wood so no two Santas are ever identical.) This Grandfather Frost, as he is called in Russia, is made in Sergei Posad, Russia. This Santa is signed by the artist and measures just under 6.75 inches tall by 5.5 inches wide.
