This lovely scenic hand painted Russian Santa Claus has gorgeous details in the face, beard, costume, and scene. Santa is seated comfortably on a wooden log! The scene on Santa's pack is that of two traditional Russian Troikas (Sleighs pulled by three horses) racing through the snow! Santa's cloak is painted in a lovely mauve or burgundy color with white edging. There is also a scene painted on the back of Santa's cloak - a snow covered Russian Orthodox church with blue Onion Domes next to a farm house and a wooden bridge crossing a small stream. (See close up pictures). This Santa is lightly lacquered so it is easily cleaned and protected. The solid linden wood is dried for almost 2 years before it is carved so it will last a lifetime. Linden wood was once used to make drafting boards because it is so stable once it is properly dried. It does not warp, change shape, or crack and this artistic piece will bring enjoyment for a lifetime! Please Note: These are not molded or mass produced as are some molded resin Santas from China. This Santa (or Grandfather Frost as he is called in Russia) is made in Sergei Posad, Russia and is signed by the artist and measures approximately 9.25 inches tall by 5 inches wide.
