This fantastic hand painted Russian Santa Claus is wearing a TRADITIONAL SIBERIAN WINTER SHAPKA CAP? (Notice the ears are completely covered!) Santa's red cloak is covered with snowflakes and his pack is painted in a dark blue, with white paint that looks like it is dusted with snow and is painted with golden floral designs. This Santa is painted in the GOLDEN UZOR style where the artist, T. Makarova, paints Santa’s cloak with gold paint, layering the paint giving texture and a very ornate pattern. Santa's tan cap is covered with gold stars and white snowflakes. This Santa is lacquered so it is easily cleaned and protected. The solid linden wood is dried for almost 2 years before it is carved. (Note: These are not mass produced molded resin from China. All Russian Santas are one of a kind unique and hand carved from Linden Wood so no two Santas are ever identical.) This Grandfather Frost, as he is called in Russia, is made in Sergei Posad, Russia and is signed by the artist. This nicely sized Santa measures just over 7.5 inches tall by 4 inches wide.

GOLDEN UZOR PAINTING
This Santa has a special rare type of painting called “Golden Uzor.” Tatyana Makarova, the painter, painstakingly and carefully layers the paint a number of times in order to achieve the thick, raised, golden effect in Uzor painting. It may be difficult to see in the pictures, but it creates a unique look and feel in person. Currently we know of only two painters who are painting the traditional Uzor style on their hand crafted Santas. Tatyana Makarova is one of them. Her Santas are stunning!
